Challenge #7: Circles, Squares & Scallops

Here we are on Layout Challenge #7 from the Lasting Memories Layout Challenge blog...
Now that summer is officially over (well, I guess it is still not "officially" fall until Tuesday), I have been feeling a little melancholy and decided to do some summer scraps.

This was a super fun page to make...I love circles and squares!!

I cut out pictures with my Circle Trimmers from Creative Memories, and then proceeded to cut around the cut out... either in a circle or a square. I then placed the pictures BACK in their 'frame' and twisted them a lttle... what a cool effect!!

I also love my 'square punch' from Creative Memories and used it for alot of the outline/diamond/square embellishments. Weaving the outline of the squares together really made for a neat look. Then of course I had to use my fabulous Creative Memories bike-track stickers! Perfect!

I really love how this layout turned out... and what a great time we had making these memories!

Head on over to Lasting Memories Layout Challenge to see what the other Design Team members came up with and to enter your "Circles, Squares and Scallops" layouts.
Happy Scrappin!

Duck Hunting & "Out of the Box" challenge pictures!

I have beaten the system. For now at least.
Although there are still some annoying buggs to work out... grrr. At least I can upload pictures.
Last night we went out duck hunting. 11 ducks in the freezer.
Here is my layout from Sunday's new challenge at Lasting Memories:
(You can read the beginning of this post in the last post).

First: I found a sketch that I liked, and found pictures that fit what it called for.
Second: I picked out paper (I love the 'Rusty Pickle' Camo!)
Third: I stuck it all together and embelished!!
This was a fun project! Hope you enjoyed it... check out what the other Design Team members have come up with and be sure to LINK YOUR LAYOUTS over at Lasting Memories!!
And remember... our challenges are now WEEKLY!!
Happy scrappin!!

Last of the 'Alphabet Album.' S-Z of Kurt's Growing-up Years

Here is the final segment in the 'Alphabet Album' I made of Kurtis's growing up years. Click on the "Alphabet Album" category to the right to see more pages ---->
Scroll down to see S-Z of Kurt's growing-up years

S:
This picture doesn't reallydo this page much justice... it is super fun because it is SUPER bright! The lime green worked perfectly with the stickers I had, as well as the pictures of neon snow-gear that was oh-so popular in the early 90's!

T:
I love this (above) layout. My hubby has always loved bikes... always! In fact, his Dad, Mom and Brother all ride motorcycles as well. Kurt recently sold his last motorcycle... wonder when we'll get a new one? :)

This (above) is the 'prettiest' page in this album. As Kurt is a "Man's Man" (ie: extremely redneck), I tried to keep things as far away from frilly and pink as possible.

U:

Disclaimer: All of the pictures on this "Underwear?" page featured Kurtis naked as a baby... I figured I would keep it 'G' rated and only show the cute embellishments! (although who could possibly be offended by an adorable baby?!?)

Z:
Kurtis loved Davey Crocket as a child. When he finally got his own 'coon-skin' hat, he wore it everywhere, even to bed! In honour of Davey...

And there you have it folks, a fully completed, 90 page 'Alphabet Album.' It is simple, lots of fun, and a great way to get through some of those years of piled up pictures without wearing yoruself out. This is a great keepsake and if I never get to the rest of Kurt's pictrues, at least he has some reminders of each year of his life growing up. Good luck with your projects... i'd love to see how they turn out!

Even MORE 'Alphabet Album.' My Hubby, M-R.

For those of you who are stopping by for the first time, or haven't been around for awhile, I have been showcasing a full "Alphabet Album" that I created for my husband from 22 years of growing-up pictures. Feel free to look back at the previous posts for pages A-L. Just clikc on my "Alphabet Album" link in the Categories section to the right ---->
And now, without further ado, M-R:

M:

N:
I found 'N' to be one of the hardest letters to come up with a title for. That is until I remembered that Kurtis had been part of the National Rifle Team. I had to search for these pictrues (since he had them personally, not his Mother, who I got all of the other pictrues from). I like how these pages turned out though...

O:
This is another of my favourite pages, and a technique I really like to use when I have a lot of pictures from an event. You will note, that on the left page below, there is nothing but pictures. Sometimes it can take quite a while to get all the pictures to fit exactly and fill up every bit of space, but I love how it looks!

Above is another layout I really like (can you tell I love to scrap 'farm' pictures?). I really like it, because of the photos on the right page. These were actually taken outside when it was cold, and the shutters did not open all the way. Of course there weren't digital cameras back then, so they didn't know it until the pictures were printed. What a neat effect!!

I'd love to hear any ideas about your 'Alphabet Albums'... either those you have made, or those that you have been inspired to make. What sort of theme will your album have? What is your favourite title?

Happy Birthday Hubby!

Last year this was our LAST day of holidays at the Meziadin, and this year it is our FIRST day!!! See you in a few weeks!!!

Last year on this day, we were camping at the Meziadin River... far away from anyone. Kurt was out on the water fishing by the time the sun woke up... I got some beautiful pictures; living the dream. This was our last day of holidays, so we decided to head over to Stewart and Hyder, Alaska for the day. We even went out for Kurt's favourite food, pizza. It had been raining for the last few days, but it was an absolutely gorgeous day. We had to pack up and head home (drive all the nest day...)to be back for work (I had to work on my birthday!), but we basked in that last day of freedom for as long as we could. It was truly lovely and worth every moment.
Here is Kurtis out in the water fishing, and then some glorious pictures from our drive that day. Below are some pictures from Stewart (left) and Hyder, Alaska (right). What a crazy little village! Very neat to visit, though we didn't stay very long. I still need to journal these pages...

Happy Birthday my Love!

More 'Alphabet Album!' Kurt's Life F-L...

Here are some more of my 'Alphabet Album' pages! F-L of my Hubby's growing-up years... again, there are lots of 'outdoorsy' and 'farm' layouts... my favourite to make! (Although, sometimes I run out of new ideas after an entire album of camping and animal pictures!!) Let me know what you think, or any suggestions you make have for my next 'Alphabet Album!'

This was a super fun page to make, as I had just bought a new "Puzzle Maker" punch from Creative Memories and I was dying to use it! Then of course, my newly discovered love (the cricut!) just happened to have puzzle piece letters as well. I also had some really neat 'tool' embellishments that I couldn't seem to find a project for...perfect!!

I:
My husband and I both LOVE to read...!

Another seven letters in my Hubby's life! This was also the very first "Creative Memories" album I ever made. I was always very skeptical about these albums because of the way the pages fit into place: you use both sides of the page...therefore there is no room to add pages if you forget something or want to rearrange things. Because I scrapbook chronologically, this really scared me because there is no room to play if you forget some pictures or an event...not like a "slide" album where you can just add a page wherever you like. Because I had everything pre-arranged, I really enjoyed this project. I have since gone on to complete another 3 (90 page!) Creative Memories albums. You just have to be careful that you have ALL of your pictures printed and put in order before you start!

Creating an "Alphabet Album." Kurt's Life: A-E

I can be quite obsessive and extremely organized and orderly. I scrapbook in chronological order. I am not one of those people who finds a picture and does an entire page with the one picture because it is beautiful. My pages tell stories. They share an event and they are kept in order.
EXCEPT, that is...when I did this alphabeticl album of my husbands life. Kurtis's Mom had 22 years of pictures jumbled together when we got married. There was no way I could sort through them all and get them in the right chronological order. So, I decided to do an "Alphabet Album" of Kurtis's life. I organized the pictures by events, such as biking, fishing, camping, etc. I absolutely LOVE how it turned out. This is one of my favourite forms of scrapbooking to do! Because I had so many pictures (and belive me, I didn't even use half of them!), I did a ninety page album, with two double layouts for (almost) every letter of the alphabet (K, P, U, V, W, X, Y and Z only have one double spread).

I love how the title page turned out; simple yet bold.
Since there are so many pages, I will take several posts to show them all to you. Here are A-E of my Lovey Hubby's life...

A:
B:
Alot of the pages in this album are of fishing, camping, guns and outdoor activities... here you can see him playing 'guns' at a very young age...I wonder why my Hubby is still so obsessed with hunting and fishing??
C:
D:
This is one of my favourite pages in this album... I simply took my creative memories "squiggle cutter" and made cuts from 12 inch paper in three different colorus... and tada! You have a beautiful river scene! Simple, yet oh so effective!
E:
This is another of my favourites (again with the fishing!). The letters are cut from the "Micky Mouse Font" cricut cartridge, and then I used real twine to string them all together to look like a fishing line.
One of the most fun parts of making an Alphabet Album is coming up with all of the fun titles.
I organized the pictures at home, and then did the entire 90 page album at a weekend retreat! This was also my very first introduction to the cricut! I had never seen or even heard of one before, and was absolutely delighted with what I found! I bought my own a few months later. I used the circut on almost every single page of the album!

Have you ever tried making an Alphabet Album?? Let me know how it turned out! What were some of your favourite titles??
